Boost for Thomas Coombs’ charities and not for profit client base

Over the past 12 months, our firm has seen rapid growth in our charities and not for profit department, with a 27 per cent increase in new client wins.

Our specialist Charity and Social Enterprise team, led by Director Christopher Darwin, have successfully bid for a number of charity accountancy and audit contracts in recent months.

As such, we are now a leading charity adviser in Leeds. The majority of our charity clients are based in Yorkshire; however, we have seen enquiries from charities further afield including a number with national aspects to their operations.

Christopher Darwin commented: “I believe the difficulties many charities and not for profit enterprises have faced as a result of the pandemic has resulted in them seeking an expert financial advisor or independent audit examiner who can provide a fresh pair of eyes and a value-added approach to their operations.

“Our clients find the combination of a local personable firm with the backing of a team of specialist consultants very attractive and beneficial.”

The specialist skills acquired in representing charitable organisations across Yorkshire have provided our charities team with specific knowledge and experience in a range of vital areas including local government grants, VAT requirements, cash reserves management and expanding gift aid.

Christopher continued: “Nowadays, charities are expected to run more like commercial enterprises than selfless and passionate organisations, which can sometimes mean putting charitable objectives last.

“At Thomas Coombs, it’s our job to put those objectives firmly back in focus by providing an expert and insightful accounting and compliance service.”
