Children’s cancer charity Candlelighters has invited one of Yorkshire’s oldest firms of Chartered Accountants, Thomas Coombs, as a sponsor at its 2018 Awards ceremony.
Due to be held on 14 September 2018 at the New Dock Hall in Leeds, the Candlelighters Awards recognise those people within the charity and supporters who have gone out of their way to increase awareness of the organisation’s work and raise money.
As a close contact of the organisation, Thomas Coombs has been invited to sponsor the prestigious Fundraiser of the Year Award.
Christopher Darwin, a Partner at the Leeds-based practice, said: “We were very excited when Candlelighters asked us to sponsor this year’s Awards and leapt at the opportunity to support this category.
“As long-time friends of the firm we have seen first-hand the exceptional work that the charity does and we can’t wait to find out who will go home with the Award this year.”
In 2017, the Fundraiser of the Year Award was won by Craig Wright, who decided to grow his hair and beard over 12 months without shaving and managed to raise an incredible £35,000.
His actions inspired Candlelighters to set up its very own FundRAZOR challenge, which challenges fundraisers to raise money via a number of hair related tasks.
Brian Curran, Corporate Fundraiser at Candlelighters, said: “We are delighted to add Thomas Coombs to a growing number of companies that are supporting this growing, popular event, which helps us to raise money towards our work with children who have cancer.”
Candlelighters support families in Yorkshire facing children’s cancer and are involved in a number of different projects to help ordinary families who are facing extraordinary circumstances.
