The rate of fraud reported in the charity sector is growing at an alarming rate, so it is vital that charities of all shapes and sizes protect their income and assets by building strong defences.
To help raise the profile of charity fraud The Fraud Advisory Panel is promoting the Charity Fraud Awareness Week, which takes place from the 21st – 25th October 2019.
Each day will have a specific theme:
- Monday 21 October: Understanding charity fraud
- Tuesday 22 October: Fundraising (donation) fraud
- Wednesday 23 October: Cybercrime and cybersecurity
- Thursday 24 October: Internal (insider) fraud
- Friday 25 October: Keeping data safe
Charity Fraud Awareness Week promotes openness and honesty about fraud. It brings together everyone involved in the charity and not-for-profit sectors to raise awareness and share good practice in tackling fraud and financial crime.
The organisation will be working in partnership with over 40 charities, regulators professional representative bodies and other not-for-profit stakeholders worldwide during the week to combat fraud against charities.
Throughout the week you can follow advice from the panel and see what it is getting up to by monitoring the hashtag #CharityFraudOut.
At Thomas Coombs, we will also be supporting the week with posts online. To find out more about Charity Fraud Awareness Week 2019, please click here.
